Dr Sanka Amadoru is a geriatrician at Austin Health in the north-east of Melbourne, where he has helped develop the Residential In-Reach service. He is active with Austin Health’s Medical and Cognitive Research Unit and The University of Melbourne’s Florey Institute ADNet clinical trials arm, working towards a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Dr Christine Mandrawa works at St Vincent’s Health Melbourne as a Consultant Geriatrician on the Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) wards. She also works in the Continence Clinic and is the medical lead for the new GEM@Home program, which provides geriatric assessment and rehabilitation to patients in their home setting.

  • She has expertise in all areas of geriatric medicine with particular interests in dementia, delirium, frailty and appropriate prescribing.
  • She enjoys teaching medical students and is a tutor with the University of Melbourne School of Medicine. She performs research with the National Ageing Research Institute.

Dr Jo Mitropoulos is a Consultant Geriatrician at Monash Health, where she works in the Falls and Balance Clinic and is on the Monash Health Falls Committee.

  • She has particular expertise in caring for residents of aged care facilities, having worked in residential care settings via In-Reach and Transition Care Programs.
  • Jo has a broad skill set applicable to the care of older people, and is particularly passionate about end of life care and advance care planning. She has presented at national and international conferences on these topics and she has completed a Clinical Diploma in Palliative Medicine.

Dr Hasanka Ratnayake is a dual trained general physician and geriatrician with a casual appointment in the General Medicine unit at Alfred Health. She is passionate about delivering quality care for older people in both hospital and community settings. She has a keen interest in falls and bone health in older people, and helped to create Alfred Health’s hip fracture pathway and follow up clinic.

  • Hasanka has a broad skill base in all areas of both geriatric and general medicine, with particular interest in dementia (diagnosis and management), falls, appropriate prescribing and bone health.
  • She is experienced in caring for those in residential care through working in hospital in-reach programs and is dedicated to providing exceptional care in this environment.

Dr Jesse Zanker works in rural Victoria and has appointments with Western Health, the University of Melbourne and Australian Institute of Musculoskeletal Science. He is undertaking a PhD in sarcopenia (the loss of muscle strength, function and mass) and is researching ways to improve the quality of life and independence of older adults.

  • Jesse has expertise in all areas of geriatric medicine, with particular interests in falls and fracture prevention, palliative medicine, and mental health in older age. He is passionate about the care of older adults from rural and LGBTIQ backgrounds, and those identifying as Aboriginal Australians.
  • Jesse is a tutor and lecturer with the University of Melbourne School of Medicine.
  • Jesse is on the Victorian committee of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine, is co-founder and Vice President of the Global Sarcopenia Alliance for Researchers and Clinicians in early career (GoSARC), and a member of the Australasian Association of Gerontology. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

She previously worked in administrative roles at Intellectual Property Research Institute of Australia and the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, both based at The University of Melbourne.
